Greetings!

Greetings Quilt Camp at Sea cruisers!! This blog has been created so you will have a chance to chat with other quilters sailing on a future Quilt Camp at Sea cruise with you!! Some of those sailing with you may have been on several of our previous cruises to Alaska, New England, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, or on our Christmas Market cruise and may have some special "pointers" to share with you. It would be nice if you would let everyone know which cruise you are sailing on - 2011 Alaska, 2011 Mexican Riviera, 2012 Mexican Riviera, 2012 Hawaii or the "Collector's Voyage" in 2012 that is combining both the Mexican Riviera and Hawaii sailings so you will have a chance to chat with others on the same cruise!

  1. Congratulations Pat, for establishing a place for Quilt Camp at Sea quilters to chat!

Jody Houghton here and happy to report to my fellow Cruisers from the Sisterhood of Quilters Alaskan Cruise that my cold is gone and my daughter's wedding was fabulous! It was in Sonoma, California and everybody had such a great time.

Now I am getting back on track designing new fabric collections and catching up on all those little things that add up when we leave our homes and offices for a few weeks.

I hope you all check in on the blog so we can plan more fun and quilting projects before we join Pat and her crew for another great adventure.

    Happy Quilting - JODY

  4. Glad to see this! I'd love to get know some of you before we head out on the Girls Just Want to Have Fun Cruise in 2012. I know it's going to be a blast.

It'll be my first cruise, so I'd appreciate some tips from you more experienced cruisers.

  5. Ok everyone, let's give Terri some "insight" into cruising - the food, the chocolates on your pillow each night, but most of all the FUN of being with a great group!!

  6. Loved Jody's collection on the 2010 Alaskan cruise and am looking forward to seeing her new creations. The Alaskan cruise was my second - cruised New Englad last year - and this group totally spoils ya! Looking forward to the 2012 Collectors cruise to Mexico and Hawaii.

  7. The 2010 Alaskan cruise was special for me...I bought one of the "used" (in the one of the onboard classrooms) Bernina 440s and now look forward to learning to sew/quilt. So you see, Terri, I will likely be learning tips from you!

  8. When Sue began cruising with us, she was a "non-quilter" sharing a stateroom with her quilting friend - on her third cruise, she bought the Bernina machine and has now changed her "status" on the 2011 Mexican Riviera cruise and the 2012 Hawaii cruise to being a QUILTER!!! Welcome to the Sisterhood of Quilters, Sue!!!

  9. This will be my firsst quilting cruise. Looking forward to meeting fellow quilters/cruisers, the classes and meeting Earlene Fowler. Any advice for a "newbie"?

  10. And welcome to the Bernina family. You're so lucky to learn on a Bernina. Wait, maybe you're not. You won't be able to blame the machine for any mistakes!

I'm awaiting the arrival of my new 820 tomorrow. Can't wait.

  11. Remember to read the book I gave you on the cruise - it has LOTS of tips....but the best tip I can share (after years of experience) is: if you don't have the #57 foot for your machine - make that your FIRST purchase!!! It has been a lifesaver....almost ALWAYS perfect 1/4 inch seams (but sometimes I get distracted while sewing and watching "Castle", "Army Wives", "Royal Pains", "White Collar" or "Covert Affairs" and the seams get a little crooked)!!

  12. Hi, I sent a comment before but I guess there's something I'm not doing right. I'm a Canadian from Alberta. This will be my first cruise with Pat and I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

  13. This is a great idea, Pat. We are starting to think about hotel reservations for the Mexican Rivera 2011.
I believe there is quilt museum in San Diego. Does anyone know anything about it? I am looking for books, fiction or non-fiction about the places we are going. Any suggestions?
This will be our 4th cruise with you. It just gets better and better.

  14. Welcome to Ilene from Alberta!! You are sailing on the 2011 Mexican Riviera cruise with a LOT of our Gold Star cruisers and I know they will all make you feel welcome!!

In response to Carol's question, you are probably referring to Quilt Visions
    2825 Dewey Road, Suite 100
    San Diego, CA 92106
    Phone: 619-546-4872

    Gallery Hours: Tue–Sun 10AM - 4PM
Closed Monday and all major holidays

We have quite a few quilters from the San Diego area (like SueT our "newbie" quilter and the group from Escondido and Ramona.....perhaps they have some suggestions of sights to see? Len and I will be flying to San Diego on November 20 and spending a week traveling around to "check things out" and make the final cruise preparations. As for books to "check out" of the places we will be going to, I always rely on Frommer's Guides - sometimes they are available in libraries and Barnes and Noble usually has them as well.

  15. One of the comments above indicated that I'm from San Diego. Maybe there is another SueT from San Diego but I am from Washington state.

Is anyone out there working on the Bennie Harper block of the month? I have finished 4 and will soon start the 5th - not such an easy one so am postponing it.

  16. My apologies - I was referring to smorgan4 whom I know as Sue and the "T" slipped in there because I had just re-read her comments about her new machine; smorgan4 is a real "newbie" quilter but a long time cruiser with us. So, I hope everyone will welcome SueT and help her become another Happy "Camper" with Quilt Camp at Sea!!

  17. I have just finished the Benni Harper block of the month quilt (with a few "modifications" - there ARE some "challenging" blocks (I suggested to Earlene that she might want to talk to a quilter before she titles her NEXT Benni Harper book so those of us who make the blocks corresponding to the titles will have an easier time!!). It appears we have over 40 quilters on the cruise (and an instructor or two as well) working on the quilt or at least getting the blocks every month, so far only 6 have emailed me to let me know they are planning to bring the quilt top.

  18. I just couldn't resist a challenge. I found the State Fair block in one of my quilt magazines. Way too many diamonds etc. Using EQ7 (which I love!) I redesigned the block to use half square triangles etc. A little bit more sewing but for me lots easier.

  19. Way to go Sue!!! I can't wait to see your quilt top on the cruise!

  20. Candy says Hi to everyone noew cruisers and gold star cruisers. My husband Dale and I sailed on our first quilting cruise to Alaska this year. We had a ball and are going on the Collector's Cruise in 2012. Everyone was wonderful and fun. I learned new techniques and sewed on the Bernia 440 with no problems at all. If we did have a problem Georgia or her helper was right there to help. We made many new friends and hope to make more on the next cruise or even through this blog. I am a hugger so Hugs to all.

  21. Candy was also the winner of the Crazy Hat Challenge on the 2010 Alaska cruise!! Her hat was fabulous. A lot of the new friends she made on that cruise will be joining her (and Dale) in 2012.

  22. Finally finished the Dove in the window block - really had to concentrate to get everything in the right place. am trying to get the blocks done before the "holidays". I know it isn't even close to the holidays but I have a busy fall and need to get the blocks off of my "to do" list.

  23. With THAT block out of the way, once you finish Arkansas Traveler, it will be a "piece of cake"......the Arkansas Traveler block convinced me I never wanted to travel to Arkansas!!!!!

  24. Is anyone considering doing the Dolphin Encounter excursion available in Puerta Vallarta ?

  25. Ilene, I will send an email out to quilters on our email listing for the 2011 Mexican Riviera cruise to see if anyone would like to join you.

  26. Just got my panel for the 2012 Quilt Camp at Sea Mexican Riviera cruise! Love it! Sisters rule - thanks Jody and Northcott.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Glad you like it!! I had a lot of fun creating the cruise memory quilt for that cruise using the panel - it is now on the website under the class info link for the 2012 Mexican Riviera cruise. Jody said I was the FIRST to make a project using the panel - how fun is THAT? Pat
